A larger-than-life patriarch. A wedding. Lots of oil as a front for a family business. No, we’re not talking about the Corleones and The Godfather, whose iconic dialogue is seared into our collective consciousness (“I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse”), but about the Dars and their A.B.C. Deli business (“always be convenient”!).
Arshad “Baba” Dar (Iqbal Theba) is the super-successful owner of DarCo, whose tentacles extend throughout Philadelphia and Delaware Valley. The business includes his invention of a supersized plastic jug that fits into your vehicle’s cup holder, the A.B.C. Deli franchise, and something golf-related. When he suddenly dies, his two spoiled sons — Mir (Asif Ali) and Raj (Saagar Shaikh) — inherit his empire and boy are they completely unprepared.
The elder son, Raj, does drugs and has a spiritual shaman, while the younger, Mir, thinks Drexel is a great business school. Raj runs on vibes, while Mir runs on math. Together, they may live up to Baba, but alone, they are nothing. Unlike in The Godfather, however, it is the men who are careless and the women who help clean up their messes. Thank god.
